SOUTH RISK

From data collection to monitoring intervention. A southern history

SOUTH RISK

A virtual exhibition combining science, prevention, and environmental remembrance

South Risk retraces the long history of those who, in Southern Italy, observed the sky, the earth, and the sea to understand the risks of their time and protect their communities. It is a tradition of research that weaves together science, institutions, and territory — and one that speaks to us today with renewed urgency. As Giambattista Vico wrote, “The nature of things is their coming‑into‑being”: to know natural phenomena is to understand how they arise, how they change, and how they can guide our choices. The exhibition unfolds through four thematic paths curated by leading southern institutions:

Ecate e il Cielo

Università di Bari Aldo Moro

Bellebbuono

INAF- Osservatorio Astronomico di Capodimonte

Dal Cielo e dalla Terra

Università di Napoli Federico II

Tra Scilla e Cariddi

Università di Messina

Four perspectives that intertwine meteorology, astronomy, seismology, and volcanology, reconstructing a scientific memory that still helps us read the present.

South Risk is part of a PRIN–PNRR project funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, with support from the European Union through the NextGenerationEU programme.
